The University of the Sunshine Coast Herbarium houses a collection of plant specimens donated by the Queensland Forestry Research Institute, now housed in a purpose-built space within the Library.

The Herbarium is a collaborative project involving the Library, the Faculty of Science, Health, Education and Engineering, and Facilities Management, together with the Foundation Office and generous donations from local benefactors and the Queensland Forestry Research Institute.

The herbarium collection forms the basis for a regional reference collection of plants growing in our region and provides a useful resource for the University of the Sunshine Coast and regional community. The herbarium consists of c.10,000 plant specimens, some dating back to the 1940s, and provides valuable historical records of plant distributions.

The University of the Sunshine Coast Virtual Herbarium is a complement to the existing physical herbarium, which is in the process of being digitized and uploaded to the Virtual Herbarium.
